This class is intended to teach the basic elements of piano playing technique, along with the skills necessary to read and perform piano music. Throughout this course, students will demonstrate understanding of the following topics:
Basic note reading ability in treble and bass clef
Basic understanding of melodic lines vs harmonic lines
Scales and their functions
Popular and standard melody
Ensemble/group performance
Music Technology
This class will focus on music production through modern technological processes. Students will engage in music composition and arrangement through computer-based notation and digital sequencing. Students will learn the proper methods of digital recording, editing and mixing as well as the skills involved in audio production and post-production.
Guitar
This class is intended to teach the basic elements of guitar playing technique, along with the skills necessary to read and perform guitar music. Throughout this course, students will demonstrate understanding of the following topics:
Basic note reading ability in treble clef
Basic rhythms and rhythmic notation
Basic understanding of picking and strumming techniques
Chords and chord symbols
